A gold bus in honour of Mickey Bushell and Danielle Brown was unveiled in Telford

A bus in Telford has been painted gold to honour Shropshire Paralympians Mickey Bushell and Danielle Brown.

Bushell won gold in the T53 100m wheelchair final at London 2012 while Brown picked up gold in the individual compound archery.

Telford and Wrekin Council displayed the community bus close to Bushell's home in Arleston Lane.

It will be used to transport people with disabilities and mobility problems around the town.

'Lasting tribute'

Telford and Wrekin Council said the bus was repainted over the weekend and would remain gold in the future.

A council spokesman said more than 60 members of the public turned out to welcome home Bushell at the launch event.

Council leader Kuldip Sahota said: "We felt it was important to do something quickly as a fitting and lasting tribute to the incredible gold medal-winning performances by both Mickey Bushell and Danielle Brown."

The bus can carry a maximum of 15 people and has a low floor and a ramp to make it easier for passengers to access.

Baroness Rachael Heyhoe Flint was a surprise guest at the launch.

The former cricketer is president of the Lady Taverners charity which raised £2,000 towards Mickey's first racing wheelchair.

He was presented with it when he was awarded the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award in November 2003.
