Jiggers Bank improvement works given go-ahead

Jiggers Bank has been closed since the end of November

Work has been approved on a Shropshire road which was closed in November by falling rocks.

An emergency closure of Jiggers Bank in Ironbridge took place after rocks fell on to the road following heavy rain. It was followed by further falls.

Telford & Wrekin Council has agreed to a number of repairs and improvements, including the installing of netting and anchors.

Jiggers Bank is expected to remain closed until June.

Meanwhile, the council said it was continuing its work to manage the issue of land instability in and around the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site.

Work is concentrated on part of Jackfield between the Jackfield Tile Museum and the Boat Inn, "an area that has suffered significant landslides in the past", the authority said.

Cabinet lead for land stability issues Richard Overton said: "Since 2001, Telford & Wrekin Council has spent more than £16m on tackling land instability in the gorge.

"This combined with £12m government funding is enabling us to carry out this complex technical project."
