A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was attacked in a Shropshire town.

The victim, who is in his early 20s, suffered a single puncture wound to the stomach and later died at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

West Mercia Police said he was assaulted in Lord Street, Oswestry, shortly before 20:20 BST on Wednesday.

The suspect, 18, is to be questioned by officers later. Lord Street and Oak Street car park have been cordoned off.

Det Ch Insp Neil Jamieson, from the force's major incident unit, said the investigation was still in its very early stages and officers were trying to establish the exact circumstances leading up to the man's death.

He appealed for anyone with information on the attack to come forward.

The victim's family has been informed, police said.
