Hadley solar farm 'could power 1,000 homes'

A solar farm proposed for Shropshire could power up to 1,000 homes, a council has said.

Telford and Wrekin council hopes to build the £6m 30 acre (12 hectare) energy park at Wheat Leasows in Hadley.

It said the energy generated from 20,000 panels would power local homes and be fed into the National Grid to make money for the council.

A decision whether to submit a formal planning application would be made on 19 September, the council said.

The authority announced a partnership with contractors Carillion in June, external which it said would help people save money on their energy bills.

Bill McClements, from the council, said: "This site is close to a substation so it will be very easy to link it up to the network.

"For a roughly £6m investment in this field, dependent on how electricity prices go, we could probably make a £5m profit."
