Paralympian Mickey Bushell collects MBE

Bushell is part of Birmingham's Birchfield Harriers club

Gold medal winning Paralympian Mickey Bushell has been appointed an MBE at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

Wheelchair competitor Bushell, 23, from Telford, won the T53 100m sprint at London 2012.

A postbox was painted gold in his hometown in his honour, while a special stamp was also released.

He was named in the New Year's Honours list and received his award for services to athletics from the Prince of Wales.

A member of Birmingham's Birchfield Harriers club, Bushell is currently the world record holder in the T53 100m.

He was born with a rare medical condition that means he is missing seven vertebrae in his lower back.

Bushell said: "I thought I would be nervous coming here today, but I think competing at London 2012 prepared me for it."

He said he was hoping to replicate last year's achievement at the 2016 Rio Games.
