A stretch of the M54 in Shropshire that closed as a result of a lorry fire has fully reopened.

The vehicle's almost full tank of diesel ruptured and spilled across both westbound lanes between junction 3 for Cosford and junction 4 for Shifnal at about 08:30 BST on Tuesday.

It meant the carriageway needed to be resurfaced, National Highways said.

Among those affected were Shrewsbury Town fans heading to the League Trophy match against Brighton's under-21s.

National Highways' emergency response teams treated the carriageway, which enabled lane two to be temporarily reopened to release trapped traffic.

The organisation said the road had since been reopened with no residual delays in the area.
