The location of the ambulance site in Shrewsbury, near schools, had been criticised by local residents

An ambulance service is due to look at alternative locations for its hub in Shrewsbury this month.

West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) has committed to leaving its base on Mercian Close by 2027, when its lease runs out.

The current site was criticised by residents over concerns about the number of ambulances passing nearby schools.

The service said it would seek national funding for the move.

In a letter to Shrewsbury Town Council's planning committee, WMAS chief executive Anthony Marsh said he hoped to have its new hub in the town operational by spring 2027.

He said the ambulance service would consider how a new site would work with future developments around the town, including the proposed North West Relief Road.

The service was also supportive of the council's plans to improve road safety around the Mercian Close hub, Mr Marsh added.

The authority was due to discuss the developments on Tuesday.
