A new on-demand bus service in Shrewsbury will be free to use during its November test period.

Passengers will be able to book via an app or phone call for free travel at selected times during the month.

The service will initially run alongside the 544 bus to Lyth Hill and 546 bus to Pulverbatch from 6 November.

When it formally launches on 4 December, it will cover the two villages from Monday to Saturday, and customers will pay a fee.

The on-demand service , externalis being operated by Shropshire Council, and is replacing the two fixed timetable services, which have seen a drop in passenger numbers.

"The start of our new on-demand service is part of Shropshire Council's commitment to reinvigorate public transport in Shropshire," said cabinet member Ian Nellins.

Four "roadshows" will be held at Pulverbatch Village Hall and Percy Thrower's Garden Centre in November, where people can hear more about the service.
