Harry Burgoyne praised fans for their fundraising effort

A goalkeeper has raised money to replace two flags promoting inclusivity in sport after they were stolen from a football stadium.

Shrewsbury Town's Harry Burgoyne, a player advocate for the HerGameToo campaign, initially set up a fundraising page to replace a banner for the campaign at Croud Meadow.

But he said on X he was told the Proud Salopian flag was also taken.

He said the money raised would pay for both items.

The Her Game Too banner "championing women" in sport and tackling sexism along with the flag for Proud Salopians, which supports LGBTQ fans, were taken from the ground on 15 November, Shrewsbury Town said.

Burgoyne raised about £700 of a £1,000 target on his page.

"I'm happy to say we have raised enough to replace both the #hergametoo flag and the Proud Salopian flag as well," he wrote on X.

"Goes to show how together the fanbase is and where the values lie."

The player added he would work with others to get the new flags sorted as soon as possible.

"Makes me proud to be part of the Salop when we all come together like we have," he added.

West Mercia Police have been asked for a response.
