Temporary accommodation has opened in Shrewsbury to offer rough sleepers a warm bed as temperatures plunge.

The Severe Weather Emergency Protocol was activated this week and is initially expected to be in place until 4 December.

Beds will be allocated between 22:00 BST and 23:00 at the site on Castle Foregate.

Temperatures are due to drop to -5C degrees on Thursday and Friday night and only rise to -1C over the weekend.

Charity Shrewsbury Ark said its teams would be helping to staff the accommodation which belongs to Shropshire Council and advised people to ring ahead if the individual was not known to the Rough Sleepers team.

"If you see anyone rough sleeping in the town they can come to No70 Castle Foregate... and sleep inside in warmth and safety," it said.
