Barriers have gone up in the Frankwell area of Shrewsbury

Flood barriers are being deployed in the River Severn's catchment following heavy rain.

Temporary defences have been installed in the Frankwell area of Shrewsbury, with more rain forecast in the coming days.

The Environment Agency has a flood warning in place for Kempsey in Worcestershire and less severe flood alerts for other stretches.

There are also alerts in place for other rivers in the West Midlands.

Fire and ambulance services were called to Edgerley in Shropshire during the early hours, after reports a driver had become stranded in floodwater, but the motorist was able to get to safety without help.

The Severn is expected to peak in Shrewsbury on Tuesday and in Worcestershire on Wednesday.
