Officers searching for a 36-year-old man who has been missing since December have found a body in the River Severn.

West Mercia Police have used canoes, drones and helicopters in their search for Harry Hull-Merrick from Telford, who was last seen in Ironbridge.

A body was recovered from the river on Sunday, about 30 miles away near Ombersley in Worcestershire.

A formal identification is yet to take place on the body, but is believed to be the missing man, police said.

"Harry's family have been informed and have asked that their privacy is respected at this difficult time," a force spokesperson said.

After his disappearance on 8 December, the search was delayed due to a combination of the swollen river, fast currents and weather conditions which made some parts of the Severn inaccessible until about a week later, the force said.

The death is not being treated as suspicious. Police thanked everyone who shared their appeals.
