Fires are still burning at a recycling centre, after a blaze broke out two days ago.

Firefighters started to tackle the flames in Taunton Recycling Centre's textiles area on Tuesday at around 03:00 BST.

Somerset Council said crews were still tackling "small persistent fires".

The site is shut and so Wellington and Bridgwater recycling centres will be open every day next week.

The cause of the fire is still not known. Specialist engineers are expected to assess the building early next week once it is safe to access.

Devon and Somerset Fire Service deemed the site "structurally unsafe" after the fire.

People who would have used the Taunton site are advised hold onto their recycling or visit one of the other 15 recycling sites across Somerset.

Councillor Dixie Darch, Somerset Council's lead member for climate, and the environment, said: "This is big disruption for a lot of people and we apologise for that but hope everyone understands why it's just not possible to reopen the site at this stage."

"We've arranged extra opening at the nearest alternative sites to offer some help and will work with Biffa to do whatever we can to get Taunton back up and running soon."

Residents are urged to stay away from the site.
