Part of a major commuter route was closed for about 11 hours following a serious crash.
The A303 at Broadway, Somerset, was shut between the A358 Horton Cross and the A30/A35 Honiton, according to National Highways.
Avon and Somerset Police said officers were called shortly after 04:30 GMT on Thursday. Traffic monitoring service Inrix reported "heavy traffic" in the area following the crash.
Diversion routes were put in place.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "The A303 has been closed after a road traffic incident near Horton Cross this morning.
"The A303 will remain closed between the Southfields roundabout and junction with the A30 for at least several hours. The A358 is also closed.
"Traffic is being diverted, but drivers should avoid the area if possible."
