Plans to build more than 1,000 new homes within a new housing development in Somerset have been proposed.

The site at Woolavington West, near Bridgwater is opposite the Gravity Site which is set to become a new £4bn electric car battery factory.

It would see 1,400 new homes, a primary school, local centre, football pitches and play areas built between Woolavington Road and Crancombe Lane.

A public consultation on the plans will take place next year.

A percentage of the planned development would also be affordable homes.

Persimmon Homes Severn Valley Managing Director, Paul Moody, said: "The scheme will help meet local housing need and is a logical site which will complement the exciting employment plans proposed at the nearby Gravity Smart Campus, which is set to deliver over 7,500 jobs in the area.

"The plans would deliver a mix of much needed homes aligned to the local authority's housing requirements and wider social, economic and environmental ambitions for the area."

Sustainable transport would also be built with a network of cycle routes and connections to link Woolavington West and through Puriton as well as access to the road network which is located just one mile from M5 Junction 23.
