Murder charge after Somerset man, 24, dies in hospital

Jordan Simcock died in hospital two days after suffering a serious injury

A man has died in hospital two days after sustaining a serious injury in a Somerset village.

Emergency services were called to Coronation Close, Ruishton, near Taunton, at about 20:00 GMT on Monday.

Jordan Simcock, 24, was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol and died on Wednesday.

Michael Drake, 46, from Taunton, has been charged with murder. He appeared at Taunton Magistrates' Court earlier and was remanded in custody.

Mr Drake will appear at Bristol Crown Court on Friday.

Avon and Somerset Police said a post-mortem examination is due to be take place in the coming days.

A second man, aged in his 40s, who was arrested earlier this week in connection with the incident, has been released with no further action.

Det Ch Insp Simon Dewfall, said: "I'd like to reassure everyone that we believe this to be an isolated incident involving people who were known to each other and that there is no wider risk to the public.

"We are working closely with our Wiltshire and Gloucestershire colleagues, through the major crimes investigation team, as we continue to conduct a thorough investigation into Jordan's death."
