Mayor of Doncaster praises anti-social behaviour order

An order allowing police to move on anyone suspected of anti-social behaviour has been used against 34 people in a month in Doncaster.

The order was issued a month ago to South Yorkshire Police and Doncaster Council and allows officers to move on groups in Wheatley.

The Mayor of Doncaster, Peter Davies said the behaviour was "not acceptable" and was a "priority" for the council.

The order also allows officers to impose notices which carry a fine.

Sgt John Hunter of Wheatley Safer Neighbourhood Team said he was "pleased" with the progress that had been made.

"Residents have told me they feel safer and are pleased with the extra police presence. We have already seen a decrease in the presence of groups of youths, which was one of our main concerns."

The dispersal order is valid for six months and will end in December.
