Rotherham council cuts another 200 jobs

A further 200 jobs are to go at Rotherham Council after the authority approved its budget for 2012/13.

The Labour-run authority has also frozen council tax and staff salary increments as it aims to reduce its budget by £20.4m.

The council has already cut 1,000 council posts in the past two years.

The council said it hoped some of the posts would be lost through voluntary redundancy but could not rule out compulsory redundancies.

In 2010, Rotherham Council was told to save about £64m in the government's Comprehensive Spending Review.

It cut £30m in 2011 and will have to find a further £14m in 2013/14.
