The A57 Snake Pass links Sheffield and Manchester

A major road across the Peak District, linking Sheffield and Manchester, will be closed for two weeks for repairs.

The A57 Snake Pass will be shut from its junction with the A6013 Ashopton Road all the way to its junction with Hurst Road in Glossop until 14 June.

The road has been closed to allow work on retaining walls. The Snake Pass is sometimes closed because of snow.

There will be no through route from Glossop to Sheffield for any vehicle while the work is taking place.

Labour councillor Dean Collins, Derbyshire County Council's cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "We'd like to apologise for any inconvenience while the Snake Pass is closed, but we cannot carry out this essential work without closing the road."
