Rotherham Borough Council said it aims to develop hundreds of new homes by 2026

Plans to build new council homes at four sites in Rotherham are set to be given approval by councillors.

The proposals would see 74 new properties built for council rent on land owned by the local authority.

Sites on Addison Road and Larch Road in Maltby and Netherfield Court and York Road in Eastwood are part of the council's housing delivery programme.

The need for affordable homes has been heightened by the rising cost of living, a report by the council said.

Rotherham Borough Council said there is a "clear and continuing need" for housing across the area.

Under the plans 19 homes would be built at the former care home site on Netherfield Court and 12 on the former car park at York Road.

A further 27 homes would be built on land at Addison Road and 16 at Larch Road.

Councillors will discuss the plans at Rotherham Town Hall on Monday

Council documents said the development would focus on creating homes for families and accessible housing.

None of the sites currently have planning permission but the authority has submitted applications for the developments.

The schemes will be discussed by councillors at an executive meeting on Monday.

The council said it has developed 484 new council homes since 2018 and aims "to deliver hundreds of new homes for rent and shared ownership by 2026".
