Plans for 125 new homes in Goldthorpe have been approved by Barnsley Council.

Developer Gleeson Homes has been given the green light to build a series of two to four-bedroomed houses on land between Lockwood Road and the A635.

The number of homes planned for the site has been reduced from 137.

As a condition of approval, Gleeson will pay the council £720,000 to fund 26 primary and 19 secondary school places, and nearly £250,000 to fund travel and public spaces.

Councillors were told seven objections had been submitted, with concerns raised around lack of privacy, noise and disturbance, lack of amenities and an increase in traffic, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

A number of homes due to be built close to the neighbouring Grade II listed Church of St John and St Mary Magdalene have been moved after the council's conservation officer raised concerns about their proximity to the churchyard.
