Plans for new Rotherham Waverley high street development approved

Plans to build a new high street for residents of a housing estate in South Yorkshire have been given the go-ahead.
The Olive Lane development will include shops, offices and an outdoor events space for people living at Waverley, on the site of the former Orgreave Colliery.
There will also be a supermarket, bus station and a new community centre.
The plans, which had been scaled back from an earlier proposal, have been approved by Rotherham Council.
The scheme also includes 50 two and three-bedroom houses and apartments, along with car parking and improvements to the existing public transport infrastructure, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
Developers Harworth said its original plans had been altered due to "struggles" following Brexit and the coronavirus pandemic which had meant "very little investment in retail floorspace".
The new scheme would be "a much smaller proposal" which would "cater for the immediate needs of the surrounding community, but which will not seek spending from outside its immediate catchment to maintain it", the developers said.
