Percy Pud: Snowfall cancels festive Sheffield 10k running event
- Published
Snowfall in South Yorkshire has led to the cancellation of a popular 10k running event.
The Percy Pud run is held each December in the Loxley Valley in Sheffield, with each entrant rewarded for their efforts with a Christmas pudding.
Organisers the Steel City Striders hope to hold the event next Sunday instead.
"The forecast was for about 1cm of snow and it is obviously more. It's all the areas around Sheffield," Alan Barnett, from the club, said.
"The council have done a great job with all the gritting, but it's all the side roads, for people getting there, it's not safe."
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow and ice until midday, which covers much of the North of England including Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
People are being urged to take care on the roads, and to expect longer journey times by road, bus and train.
