Doncaster school surprises grandma with carols outside home

Primary school children surprised an injured grandmother by singing Christmas carols outside her home.

Cath Whitehead, 94, regularly attends the Doncaster school's annual Christmas carol concert but was unable to go this year after having a fall.

Gary Robinson, Mrs Whitehead's grandson, said: "She was heartbroken to miss the concert. She must have attended about 40 years' worth of them. There's been three generations of the family at the school. She loves it.

"When they performed, it brought her to tears."

Lindsey Ebsworth, headteacher of St Alban's Catholic Primary and Nursery School, said: "I had heard that 'Old Nan' Cath had fallen and was housebound therefore our staff and year six children made a detour to sing to Cath outside her home to cheer her up."
