Two people have been arrested after a woman was attacked with a baseball bat and crowbar while she was sat in a car in Sheffield.

Children were also believed to have been in the vehicle when the assault took place on Shirecliffe Road at about 16:50 BST on Monday, police said.

A woman, 42, and an 18-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of assault and affray, officers confirmed.

South Yorkshire Police asked for any witnesses to get in touch.

The 18-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

The victim was taken to hospital with minor injuries to her head and nose and the car was also damaged in the incident, police said.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson added: "If you were in the area at the time of the incident and have any information, dashcam or CCTV footage which could assist our officers you can contact us online or by calling 101.

"Alternatively, if you prefer not to give your personal details, you can stay anonymous and pass on what you know by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers."
