Staffordshire County Council plans for 500 job losses

Staffordshire County Council has said it may have to make up to 500 job losses due to government budget cuts.

The council said it would receive £10m less in the next financial year and planned to make up the shortfall from its reserves in the first instance.

Philp Atkins, leader of the Conservative-run council said most of the posts would be lost through retirement and voluntary redundancy.

He said the cuts were not expected to affect council services.
