Extra patrols on trains and stations in Stoke, Cheshire

Transport police are carrying out extra patrols on trains and at stations in Staffordshire and Cheshire this week.

The aim of the patrols, which will focus on stations in Stoke-on-Trent, Chester and Crewe, is to deter any anti-social behaviour.

A police spokesman said the railway in the area was "safer than it has ever been" but it only takes one incident to create a negative impact.

"We want everyone to feel safe on the railway," he said.

Sgt John Price, of British Transport Police, said patrols would pay particular attention to late night services in and out of Chester, which have been highlighted to police by rail staff and passengers.
