Titanic brews new ale as souvenir for royal wedding

Potters and brewers have worked together to produce royal memorabilia

Staffordshire drinkers can raise a glass to Prince William and Kate Middleton with a new beer for the royal wedding, brewed in the Potteries.

Called Royal Ale, it has been produced by Stoke-on-Trent's Titanic Brewery.

The 5.9% beer will be available on draught in the firm's five Staffordshire pubs next week.

The company has also teamed up with local pottery company Wade Ceramics to make 150 souvenir ceramic bottles of the ale.

Malcolm Hawksworth, from Titanic, said teaming up with Wade made complete sense.

"It's a local firm that's doing well, making pottery in the Potteries. So it's the perfect natural partnership to celebrate this royal partnership."

The first few of the limited edition royal wedding bottles have been earmarked for fundraising purposes. They will be presented to civic leaders in Stoke-on-Trent and to the Donna Louise Hospice Charity.

Titanic Brewery was founded in Burslem in 1985. The brewery name is in recognition of Stoke-on-Trent as the birthplace of Captain Edward Smith, Master of the ill-fated Titanic ocean liner.
