Stafford Hospital deaths figure removed from report

A former chairman of the Healthcare Commission said that it was his decision to remove from a report the fact that there had been between 400 and 1,200 excess deaths at Stafford Hospital.

Giving evidence at the public inquiry, Sir Ian Kennedy said that he omitted the figures because the notion of excess deaths "would not be understood".

Cure The NHS campaigner Julie Bailey told BBC Midlands Today that the number of people who lost their lives "unnecessarily" will probably never be known.
