The former Spode Works in Stoke will form part of the regeneration plans

Plans to regenerate a town centre are being scaled back under proposals going before Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

The council bought the 10-acre former Spode Pottery works in Stoke town centre last year, as part of plans to transform the area.

Proposals included a new pottery visitor attraction, convention centre, shops, restaurants and offices.

The council said some of the plans, including the convention centre, "struggled in terms of viability".

It said additional development could still take place in the future provided a bridge to link up the site over the A500 with other parts of the town centre could be built.

The city renewal overview and scrutiny committee will consider the proposals on 26 October.
