National Memorial Arboretum £12m plans on show at event

The arboretum gets about 300,000 visitors a year

A Staffordshire memorial site is hosting an event for people to find out more about its £12m redevelopment plans.

A campaign for funds by the National Memorial Arboretum is halfway to its target for the scheme, which includes building a pavilion for special events.

The site commemorates fallen servicemen and women and has 200 memorials.

Designs will be on show and presentations made at Wednesday evening's event at its Long Gallery.

The appeal was launched in April 2009 by the Duke of Cambridge when he visited the site at Alrewas, which gets about 300,000 visitors a year.

The proposals, which also include the creation of a remembrance and learning centre for visitors, will be submitted by the arboretum to Lichfield District Council next month.

Wednesday's event runs from 17:30 to 19:30 BST and includes presentations from arboretum chief executive Charles Bagot Jewitt and its architects at 18:30 BST.
