London 2012: National Memorial Arboretum hosts Olympic torch relay

The Olympic torch is going to the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire for an event to mark Armed Forces Day.

The torch relay will be there on Saturday, 30 June 2012 on its way from Burton-upon-Trent to Newton.

Charlie Bagot Jewitt, chief executive of the arboretum, said: "We're delighted to have been placed on the route for the Olympic flame."

The torch will also be in Staffordshire on 29 and 30 May.

On 30 May the Olympic flame will travel through Gnosall, Haughton, Stafford and Stoke-on-Trent.

The following day the torchbearers will pass through Cobridge, Burslem and Middleport before heading north to Bolton.

After touring Scotland and northern England, the torch returns to Staffordshire on Saturday, 30 June, taking in Burton-upon-Trent, Streethay, Lichfield, Hopwas, Tamworth, Great Wyrley and Newton, which is one of the smallest villages the relay will pass through on its trip around Britain.

Pat Corfield, from Staffordshire County Council, said: "The two days of celebrations will shine a light on Staffordshire and highlight the members of our communities who have been chosen to run with the Olympic flame."
