Staffordshire Police name drink-drivers online

Motorists caught driving over the alcohol limit in Staffordshire are being named online by the police force.

The names of more than 20 people already charged with drink-driving and associated offences since the start of the month have been published via social media, a spokesman said.

Daily updates will follow until the end of December.

West Midlands Police has also been publishing the names of those accused of the offence.

'The morning after'

The Staffordshire force said the details would be shared across the force's Twitter accounts, external with many names also appearing on its Facebook page.

Ch Insp Paul Trevor said: "The actions of drink-drivers who risk their own and other people's lives can end in tragedy for families.

"We hope that this additional consequence will make drivers think before they drink and drive.

"Even the morning after a night out drivers could be still be over the limit. Mistakenly some believe if they have eaten and slept they will be ok to drive."

The operations will continue over the next few weeks.
