Disruption during work on the A53 Broad Street in Leek will be kept to a minimum, said the council

A month of work will begin this week on a main road through a Staffordshire town.

The £300,000 scheme on the A53 Broad Street in Leek is due to start on Monday 9 October.

It will include resurfacing as well as improvements to drainage and kerbing, Staffordshire County Council said.

Temporary traffic lights and road closures will also be in place between Daintry Street and the A520 Compton junction.

The works were important for the town and would benefit both motorists and pedestrians, said David Williams, cabinet member for highways and transport.

"Crews will be doing their best to keep disruption to a minimum and will be doing most of the work during off peak times when the roads are quieter," he added.

"They'll also be doing the resurfacing work on Sundays, again when the traffic is quieter."
