A library is reopening at a new site following a £1.5m move.

Stoke-on-Trent's City Central Library opens on Monday at Two Smithfield in Hanley.

The new site included a dedicated children's area, computer suite and mezzanine floor for extra space, said Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

The library had previously been based on nearby Bethesda Street, with plans to turn that building into flats.

Jane Ashworth, Labour leader of the council, said of the new provision: "This space will be a magnet for families, just in time for October half term week."

People had been directed to the city's other libraries since the closure on 29 July.

Designs have been revealed for the multimillion-pound redevelopment of the Bethesda Street building, which proposes 96 apartments, a gym and nursery facilities.
