Rail services between Crewe and Stafford were disrupted, National Rail Enquiries said

Train passengers have faced disruption between Stafford and Crewe after overhead wires were damaged.

The issues began at about 07:00 GMT on Friday and lasted for several hours, National Rail Enquiries said.

Some lines were blocked, with services between London and Liverpool/Manchester affected by the disruption, it added.

Dr Lucy Waldron told BBC Radio Stoke she had been stuck on a train just south of Crewe for more than two hours on her way to a meeting.

"It's getting very cold in here. The biggest problem is there is no food or water on the train, we've been told," she said.

Trains in the area affected by the damaged wires lost all their power, a London Northwestern Railway spokesperson said.

They apologised to passengers for the inconvenience and said all customers were transferred to other services to continue their journeys.
