Stafford's A449 road to shut overnight ahead of resurfacing
- Published
A major road in Stafford is set to close at night for a week ahead of major resurfacing work next spring.
The A449 will be shut in both directions from the Alexandra Road junction to the A34 gyratory, from Monday night until Saturday morning.
Staffordshire County Council said the road would be shut from 20:00 and 06:00 GMT each night.
The authority said investigative road and drainage works need to take place before the resurfacing can go ahead.
Diversions will be in place and people will still have access to their properties.
'Huge improvements'
David Williams, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "These investigative works are necessary ahead of the major resurfacing due to begin next spring.
"This will give huge lasting improvements to one of the main routes into Stafford.
"Work will take place overnight to minimise disruption, though unfortunately full night-time closures on a short stretch are needed so this can be carried out safely.
"We'd like to thank people for their understanding during the works period."
