A woman who died in a collision had retired from the NHS just six days before.

Helen Klich was a passenger in a Kia involved in a collision with a BMW on the A5 in Staffordshire on Thursday, 21 December.

The 67-year-old died at the scene, with the driver of the Kia, a man in his 70s, taken to hospital.

A man, 32, arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has been released on police bail.

Ms Klich was described by her family as a "kind and compassionate wife of 49 years".

The mother-of-two, grandmother-of-four and sister-to-four had worked for the NHS for more than 25 years and "retired only six days before her untimely death", the tribute added.

She "greatly enjoyed singing" and was chairwoman of the Lichfield Kaleidoscope Choir.

The arrested man, who is from Cannock, was released on conditional bail while the investigation continued, said Staffordshire Police.

The collision happened between the M6 Toll entrance roundabout and the Turf roundabout, on the eastbound carriageway of the A5, Watling Street at about 23:20 BST on that Thursday.

Investigators continued to appeal for witnesses to the collision to get in touch.
