'No motive' for Suffolk driveway murder

Detectives investigating the murder of a man who was found collapsed on his driveway in Suffolk say they still do not know why he was attacked.

Richard Clarke, 73, of Cranley Green Road in Eye, was discovered in the early hours of 22 August 2009.

He had suffered serious head injuries and later died.

Norfolk and Suffolk Joint Major Investigation Team said they had not been able to establish a motive for the attack.

The day before Mr Clarke was found he had gone to The Horseshoes Public House in Billingford and bought a Chinese takeaway on the way back at about 1900 BST.

'Difficult year'

Police believe he ate some of his meal on the driveway and that he could have been attacked then.

Det Ch Insp Neil Luckett, of Suffolk Police, said: "A lot of hard work has been put into this investigation and it is frustrating for the team, and Mr Clarke's family, that a year on we still do not know who assaulted him and why.

"The inquiry continues to focus on the community in Eye.

"I am confident that someone in the area holds the key piece of information which will help solve this murder investigation and bring some closure to his family following a difficult year."
