In pictures: Ipswich Town's 1981 Uefa Cup victory
The pinnacle of Ipswich Town's European adventures was reached in 1981 when they lifted the Uefa Cup. Paul Mariner and John Wark show it off from the balcony of the Town Hall.
Thirty years later an exhibition is being staged at the Town Hall Galleries called Ipswich Town In Europe. It runs until 3 September. John Gowan, from Ipswich Museum, holds the club's replica miniature trophy.
Ipswich faced Barcelona in the Uefa Cup on 23 November 1977. Town won 3-0 with goals from Brian Talbot, Trevor Whymark and Eric Gates. FA Cup hero Roger Osborne was marking Dutch footballing legend Johan Cryuff.
In the 1980-81 Uefa Cup campaign, captain Mick Mills watched as Kevin Beattie scored in the 3-0 win over Bohemians of Prague at Portman Road on 22 October 1980. They lost the return leg 2-0, and went on to beat Widzew Lodz, St Etienne and Cologne on the way to the final.
In the first leg of the Uefa Cup final at Portman Road, Paul Mariner (No.9) scored in the 3-0 win over AZ Alkmaar on 6 May 1981. John Wark and Frans Thijssen also scored.
John Wark scored in the return leg of the final in Amsterdam on 20 May 1981. Ipswich lost 4-2 in the game, but won 5-4 on aggregate. Frans Thijssen was the other Town scorer.

John Wark scored a record-breaking 14 times in the 1980/81 Uefa Cup campaign. His two hat-trick balls are part of the 2011 exhibition at Ipswich Town Hall, which is being curated by Ipswich Museum's Jayne Austen. The record was broken by Jurgen Klinsmann of Bayern Munich in 1995/96.
Ipswich's last appearance in the Uefa Cup was in 2002. Darren Bent (pictured with BBC Late Kick-off presenter Matt Holland) scored in the 1-0 win over Slovan Lilberec at Portman Road, but they went out on penalties in the 2nd leg in the Czech Republic.
Ipswich manager Bobby Robson left for the England job a year after the Uefa Cup win. The club and the Archant-owned Ipswich Evening Star are hosting an anniversary evening at the Corn Exchange on Monday, 30 May, 2011.
