Lowestoft's South Beach protection work carried out

Sand and shingle from near the Claremont Pier will be moved

Up to 8,000 tonnes of sand is being moved in Lowestoft in a bid to tackle low beach levels and protect a seawall.

Waveney District Council is moving the sand and shingle on South Beach from near Claremont Pier and placing it near the Royal Green.

In 2010, the council was granted a licence to redistribute the beach twice annually, until the autumn of 2012.

The council said work will take place around the time of low tide, each day this week.
