Ipswich footballer admits driving offence

Carlos Edwards is due to be sentenced on Thursday

Ipswich Town footballer Carlos Edwards has appeared in court where he admitted driving while disqualified.

South East Suffolk magistrates heard Edwards was arrested on 26 September, a day after his wife was taken to hospital with pregnancy complications.

Edwards' daughter was going to school, and he decided to drive when he was unable to get a taxi, the court heard.

His wife gave birth to premature twins on Saturday. Edwards is due to be sentenced on Thursday.

The court heard Edwards' wife was taken to Ipswich Hospital on 25 September because of complications with her pregnancy.

She was moved to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital before being taken to the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and Edwards returned home at 04:00, the court heard.

Edwards admitted driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.
