Car on railway track near Stowmarket after ice slide

A car slid on black ice and came to rest across a busy railway track in Suffolk.

Train operator Greater Anglia said the car had gone through a level crossing and come to a stop at Haughley Junction, between Stowmarket and Diss.

Rail passengers travelling between Ipswich and Cambridge, and Ipswich and Norwich, face delays to services.

The car was removed at about 07:30 GMT but disruption was expected to continue until 18:00 GMT.

The man got out of the car uninjured, said police.

Some train services on the line have been cancelled and an hourly service is operating between London and Norwich.

Trains from Norwich are running on the hour and services from London at 30 minutes past the hour.

Services between Ipswich and Cambridge are being delayed up to 20 minutes with some subject to alterations and cancellations at short notice.

All ticket restrictions have been lifted.
