Titles doubled in digital library in Surrey

High demand for a digital library launched in Surrey has led the county council to double the number of titles available after the first month.

More than 1,500 electronic versions of published text titles and audio books have been downloaded over the internet since the service began.

The number of titles has now been increased to nearly 800.

"I am delighted the service has been so popular already," said Councillor Denise Saliagopoulos.

The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest by Stieg Larsson are the two most requested books with Stephanie Meyer's Twilight the most popular audiobook.

"It's incredible to think that these books can be borrowed at the touch of a button anywhere in the world, from a sofa in Surrey to a beach in Barbados," said Ms Saliagopoulos.

A competition to win an digital reader, organised as part of the launch of the new service, was won by Mary Hughes from Guildford.
