Epsom and Ewell Council cuts energy bills by £75,000

A Surrey council said it saved about £75,000 a year in the past two years by reducing its energy consumption.

Epsom and Ewell Borough Council said its gas consumption was down by a third and electricity use had been cut by 15% compared with 2007/8 levels.

The council has also just agreed a two-year action plan to help tackle climate change.

The plan includes environmental planning policies and procurement guidelines for staff and suppliers.

The authority said it hoped its example would encourage businesses and residents to do the same.
