Controversial plans to extend a waste recycling facility in Shepperton have been submitted to the local authority.

Surrey Waste Management is working on behalf of Surrey County Council (SCC) to develop the centre at Charlton Lane.

The facility would feature a gasification chamber, which heats waste to produce gas for energy.

The plans can be viewed on the council's website, at Sunbury and Shepperton libraries and at council offices in Knowle Green.

If the plans are approved, about 60,000 tonnes of household waste would be dealt with at the site every year.

Residents have expressed concern about the possible impact of emissions on air quality.
