Guildford roundabout to be replaced in £4m scheme

A £4m plan to ease congestion at a roundabout in Guildford has been unveiled by a local authority.

The plans include replacing the roundabout near the Surrey Research Park in Egerton Road with a crossroads and traffic lights.

In addition, there will be improved facilities for cyclists and pedestrians with new footpaths and level crossings.

The scheme is being funded with £2m from Surrey County Council and £2m from the University of Surrey.

Dr Andrew Povey, the leader of the Conservative-controlled council, said it was a "hugely important scheme" for the town.

He said it would improve access and safety for the businesses that use the science park.
