Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment parade through Epsom

Service personnel have marched through a Surrey town to celebrate being awarded the freedom of the borough.

The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment was given the honour last year by Epsom and Ewell Borough Council.

The parade began at the Market Place, Epsom, at 1130 BST, where the regiment was presented with the freedom scroll.

Service personnel then left the Market Place and marched along South Street towards the High Street.

They later attended a civic reception and the regiment's Minden Band played in Rosebery Park.

Three battalions

The council said the freedom of the borough was the highest honour the authority could bestow.

It was last conferred 10 years ago to the 135 Independent Topographic Squadron Royal Engineers (Volunteers), based in Ewell.

The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment is the county regiment of Surrey, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, Middlesex, the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands.

The regiment has three battalions - two regular and one territorial - and members of all three battalions have served on operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.
