Final preparations are being made ahead of The Queen's visit to Surrey.

Guildford Cathedral and East Surrey College are due to welcome the monarch and the Duke of Edinburgh, on Friday.

The Dean of Guildford, the Very Revd Victor Stock, said it was "splendid" the royal couple will attend the cathedral's 50th anniversary celebrations.

The Queen will also officially open a building that is home to the Reigate School of Art, Design and Media.

The Redhill facility includes a learning resource centre, auditorium, sports hall and gym.

The cathedral, at the top of Stag Hill, has had a year of celebrations to mark its milestone.

"How splendid that The Queen is taking part in our Golden Jubilee celebrations as she took part in the consecration 50 years ago," Mr Stock said.

"And how particularly imaginative that she has asked to take part in an informal celebration of the relationship between the cathedral and the wider community."

The royal party is due to meet schoolchildren, community groups and council dignitaries.
