A Surrey fire station is to close for about a year while redevelopment work takes place on the site.

The crew and equipment at Chobham Fire Station will be based at Woking Fire Station from April for about 12 months.

Surrey County Council said it was investing in Chobham station to "update and modernise facilities".

The council said redevelopment was "essential" to accommodate new larger fire appliances and "enhance welfare facilities" for staff.

Dan Quin, chief fire officer at Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), says the relocation will be monitored to ensure it is "working well".

He says the relocation "means we can continue to deliver services to the local communities in Chobham and Woking".

The council said the redevelopment work would "improve our capacity to ensure community safety and address current and emerging risks".
